Woman Pleads Not Responsible by Reason of Mental Disease For Death of Son

Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley says her office has consented to allow a Monroe County woman to plead not responsible by reason of mental disease for the death of her son.

Doorley says 38-year-old Hanane Mouhib was accused of decapitating her seven-year-old, Abraham Cardenas. Sheriff's Deputies were called to her home in Sweden in April of 2018 where they found the body. They also found Mouhib had been discharged from psychiatric inpatient admission after "minimal improvement" less than two weeks earlier.

An independent examination concluded Mouhib was mentally ill and unable to understand the wrongfulness of her conduct. She remains in the custody of the state.
