What if a Child Gets COVID-19 Symptoms at School?

Greece Central School District Superintendent Kathleen Graupman says she's excited to get kids back in school...but is prepared to quickly get a student OUT of school if they should develop symptoms of COVID-19 after arriving for classes.

Graupman says should a child turn up with a fever after arriving at school, the school nurse would immediately call parents to pick up their child, with a recommendation to follow up with a doctor. The child would be placed in an isolation room until a parent got there.

The family's doctor would be responsible for testing the child for COVID-19. On learning of a positive coronavirus test, the school district and the County Health Department would review who the child was in contact with and the health department would trace those contacts. The district would not do contact tracing or arrange to have a student tested by itself.

Graupman says most Monroe County school districts have similar plans.
