U.S. DOT Awards Millions to Rochester-Area Transit Operation for COVID-19

The U.S. Transportation Department has awarded a more than $9 million grant to the Rochester-Genesee Regional Transportation Authority. Under the CARES Act, the money will be used to support continued operation of RTS and Lift Line buses during the coronavirus pandemic.

The $9.2 million grant is on top of more than $36 million the RGRTA has already received via the CARES Act.

The DOT has also issued orders to transit agencies to develop coronavirus safety procedures requiring bus riders to wear masks, and for more frequent disinfecting and cleaning of buses.
