Police Plan Increased East End Patrols This Weekend

Rochester police are hoping to prevent a repeat of the violence last weekend in the East End Bar District...seeking to prevent large crowds from gathering and turning violent as they did last weekend.

Police plan to be very visible with DWI checkpoints and increased foot patrols. Plans also call for more lighting in parking lots. Captain Dave Smith says people are welcome to come down to the East End, but they have to follow the COVID-19 social distancing and masking rules. Police will be checking bars several times during the night for social distancing compliance.

Two people were shot and wounded in the area early Sunday morning as police broke up a large crowd. Rocks and bottles were thrown at police, leading to the arrest of a city woman.
