A business appears to have scrapped plans to build a plant in Wayne County to compost sludge from New York City.
The decision by Long Island company Tully Environmental is a victory for residents of the Town of Butler, who spoke in opposition to the plan earlier this year.
The residents were concerned about the environmental impact and their quality of life.
The proposal had called for up to 300 tons of New York City sewer waste to be brought to the town each day.
The company withdrew its permit application when it learned the plant would have to be an enclosed building.
