Five Victims Shot in Overnight Incidents in Rochester

Unauthorized fireworks displays flashed across the Rochester skies last night, but they didn't drown out the sound of gunfire across Rochester city streets.

Five people were shot in three overnight incidents in Rochester.

Three people went to the hospital and one man was detained after shots were fired laste last night in the area of Chili and Post Avenues. A 33-year-old woman was found wounded at the scene and two additional victims...both men...got themselves to the hospital by private car. All three are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

A four man was shot early this morning at Jefferson Avenue and Dr. Samuel McCree Way. The 19-year-old victim is being treated at the hospital and is expected to survive. Both incidents remain under investigation.

A fifth person was shot early this morning in the area of Pennsylvania Avenue and Sixth Street. A 16-year-old male was hit and was taken to the hospital.

Police investigating that shooting were approached by a crowd of some 25 people who began to yell and grab at the officers. One officer was punched in the head, and another injured as he tried to assist the first officer. Four members of that crowd were arrested, one for assault.

Rochester firefighters say they responded to numerous house and garage fires last night that appeared to have been caused by illegal fireworks.
