Rochester Superintendent Doubtful of Full School Opening in the Fall

Rochester School Superintendent Lesli Myers-Small says the ultimate decision on reopening schools in the fall rests with Governor Cuomo, but she says the district is preparing for three major possibilities:

One is staying with remote instruction online as at present. Two is a hybrid in which staff and some students come to school while the rest learn online. And three is full-on reopening. But Myers-Small says she doesn't see that happening, at least by September. Myers-Small says she doesn't think the district could meet the CDC requirements or force students to wear their masks all through the day.

Myers-Small says she's working on a regional school superintendent's task force on how schools should open in the fall. She spoke at a hearing on the City School Budget held on ZOOM.

Governor Cuomo says a decision on how to begin the school year in September will be coming in July.
