NYS Dept of Labor Using Outdated Software For Unemployment Claims

The New York State Labor Department reportedly is using software more than 20 years old to process the flood of unemployment claims stemming from the coronavirus shutdowns.

News10NBC has learned the system is based on MS-DOS, the computer operating system that was widely used in the 1980s and early 1990s.

The station reports that the system is so antiquated, employees have to watch a three-hour training video to learn the steps to process a single claim.

The department says it was in the first year of a five-year technology upgrade when the surge of claims hit this spring.
