Judge Orders Cuomo To Add ASL Interpreter To Briefings

A judge has ordered Governor Cuomo to add a sign-language interpreter to his televised briefings about the coronavirus.

The federal judge issued the order in a lawsuit brought by advocates for the deaf.

A sign-language interpreter is included in the video feeds on the governor's website, but not in the TV broadcasts. The plaintiffs say that violates the rights of deaf people who do not have high-speed internet access.

The state attorney general's office says the governor's office is sorting out technical issues and expects to add an interpreter in the TV feed by tomorrow.
