Rochester Public Transit To Receive Millions In Federal Funding

Rochester's public transit authority is getting more than $36 million in federal funding under the CARES Act to help continue its operations under the coronavirus pandemic.

The Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority has been operating its Regional Transit Service buses free of charge since New York went into lockdown. The buses are running fare-free until at least May 15th.

Senator Chuck Schumer says the $36 million will cover their losses for providing service to essential workers during the shutdown, and stave off any pressure for fare hikes after things get back to normal.
