UR Medicine says it is facing unprecedented financial challenges and will begin furloughs for employees as early as May 10.
The furloughs are part of a cost-cutting plan outlined earlier this month -- which also called for a hiring freeze and pay cuts for executives.
URMC took a revenue hit when elective surgeries and treatments were halted by the coronovirus outbreak.
It could be several months before furloughed employees can return to work.
