The New York State Police are warning people in our area of a scam they say is circulating the Finger Lakes Region.
Police say strangers are targeting people, specifically on-line, and are attempting to have individuals send them money.
The scammers then threaten to release private information to the public that may be embarrassing, if you don't pay within 24 hours.
Police say the scam artists are asking for payments in Bit Coins -- a form of cryptocurrency.
Anyone who feels like they are being contacted by scammers are asked to call police.
