Governor Cuomo Gives Update on Coronavirus Pandemic in NYS

Governor Andrew Cuomo says the pandemic is only 53 days old in New York. He said it seems a long time to the people struggling right now, but when compared to other historic crises, such as World Wars, it's a pretty short time.

The governor says another 474 deaths have been reported because of COVID-19. That brings the state's total to more than 19,000. There are roughly 259,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state.

Cuomo says he doesn't know how the state is going to re-open businesses without re-opening schools. But he says the situation is changing week to week and the decision on re-opening schools will be made by the state. Cuomo also says re-opening the state economy must be extremely calculated and regional statistics must be taken into account.

The governor also spoke about his meeting yesterday with President Trump, calling it "productive" and said they have agreed to work together to double the rate of testing in the state.
