Health Commissioner Calls for Investigation of Hurlbut Nursing Home

Monroe County's Commissioner of Public Health is calling on the State Health Department to investigate The Hurlbut nursing home and how it was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a letter, Dr. Michael Mendoza says he's asking the state's assistance after at least seven people died of COVID-19 at the facility on East Henrietta Road. Mendoza says he's troubled because that number...reported by the Democrat and Chronicle yesterday...doesn't match the report on nursing home deaths from the coronavirus released by the state last week. He says the discrepancy definitely got on his radar.

Dr. Mendoza says he's asking the state to investigate the Hurlbut Nursing Home and the accuracy of its reporting on COVID-19 cases and deaths. He says the perceived inaccuracy is not the message we should be sending residents of our community at this time.
