COVID-19 Cases Continue to Rise in NYS

Governor Cuomo says the cases of COVID-19 continue to rise in New York State, with 130,000 cases statewide, 72,000 in New York City, while the death toll now stands at 4,758.

Cuomo added the total number of hospitalizations and intubations are down and the apex is projected for either this week or next. Officials say if New York is plateauing, that means social distancing is working. However, authorities don't know how long the plateau might last.

The governor says he's ordered schools and non-essential businesses to remain closed through April 29th, in order to extend social-distancing.

Cuomo adds that at the moment supplies are sufficient in terms of masks, gloves and ventilators, although nearly every hospital is running low on these items.
