Paving Contractor Sentenced For Failure To Report Income

A paving contractor from Rochester has been sentenced for failing to report more than $1.7 million in income on tax returns spanning four years.

Federal prosecutors say Jason Bassett has now paid the back taxes to the IRS, but still owes more than $400,000 in penalties and interest.

He was sentenced yesterday to six months in prison and six months' home confinement.

Prosecutors say Bassett did not tell his tax return preparer that he had cashed numerous business checks.
