Judge Issues Ruling in Lawsuit filed by NY's District Attorneys Association

A judge has ruled that a planned state commission to investigate misconduct by local prosecutors violates the the state constitution.

The ruling came in a lawsuit filed by New York's District Attorneys Association.

State lawmakers finalized the creation of the commission last year, but the judge ruled this week that it would have interfered with the courts' existing power to discipline attorneys.

The judge also ruled unconstitutional the creation of a special court panel to hear appeals of the commission's ruling.

It's not clear if state lawmakers will appeal the judge's ruling.
