Some Teacher Job Cuts Reversed in Rochester

The head of the Rochester Teachers Association says some of the jobs listed to be cut by the Rochester City School District have been saved.

Union Head Adam Urbanski says the number of teacher layoffs has been cut from 109 to 97. He says this is partly due to some teacher resignations. The layoff notifications went out earlier this month as the district seeks to cut $10 million in personnel costs. It's trying to close a $65 million budget deficit.

The district was originally planning to cut more than 150 positions, but was able to scale that back by using some grant funding. The district also says it was able to recall four teachers this week due to retirements and resignations.
