RG&E and NYSEG Reaches Settlement for Violating State's Emergency Plans

RG&E and NYSEG are paying $10.5 million for violations of the state's emergency plans during storms last year.

The state accused the utilities of failing to adequately prepare for the storms and restore power.

After the storms, Governor Cuomo directed the Department of Public Service to investigate the utilities' preparations and response to the storms.

He says the settlement is the largest ever in New York State for a utility failing to follow emergency response procedures.

And NYSEG and RG&S have agreed to development a more robust storm response program, enhance coordination with local governments, and strengthen support for people on life-saving equipment.
