Penn Yan Woman Indicted On Multiple Charges, Including Homicide

A Penn Yan woman who helps deliver babies in the Mennonite community has been indicted on dozens of charges -- including negligent homicide -- following an investigation into the death of a baby last year.

Elizabeth Catlin reportedly is a certified midwife but is not licensed by the state.

She was accused of transporting a woman in labor to Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, where the baby was born. But the baby died as it was being taken to Strong Hospital in Rochester.

Other charges in Yates County include unauthorized practice of midwifery, identity theft, possession of a forged instrument and falsifying business records.

She's charged in Ontario County with unauthorized practice of a profession.
