A Monroe County man with a long string of felony DWIs to his name has been sentenced to 16-years-to-life in prison as a persistent felony offender.
The Monroe County District Attorney's Office says Paul Carmichael was sentenced after six previous felony offenses including drunken driving and attempted burglary.
He pleaded guilty in May on two counts of drunken driving, driving without a license and driving a car not equipped with an ignition interlock device. He was told to appear for sentencing and that he would serve two-and-a-third to seven years as long as he was not arrested again before sentencing. But Carmichael failed to appear, and fought with the officers sent to arrest him. That earned him the 16-year prison term.
