A Sweden woman is facing charges after authorities say she injured a child that she was in the process of adopting.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says they arrested Jamie Nicosia and charged her with second degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Authorities say the investigation began last month when Nicosia called 911 to report that a three year old girl she was fostering, was unresponsive and not breathing.
Authorities say while the child was at the hospital, doctors found several injuries.
Following an investigation, authorities believe Nicosia committed intentional acts that caused the injuries.
The child is recovering and has been released from the hospital.
