Federal prosecutors say a Buffalo-area man will serve two-and-a-half years in prison after being found guilty of a scheme to defraud CVS of diabetic test strips.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says 36-year-old Antonio Rivera was a senior purchasing associate for CVS, which required him to order the products sold at CVS pharmacies. In July of 2018, CVS noticed diabetic test strips were being ordered for a Rochester store from a company they don't do business with. An internal investigation found more than 20,000 boxes of test strips worth more than $2.5 million had been ordered and couldn't be accounted for.
The investigation found Rivera was diverting the shipments to an associate in Florida. He was found guilty of wire fraud and sentenced to prison time, plus ordered to pay back the $2.5 million.
