Teachers' Union Disputes Budget Cutting Plan

The Rochester Teachers Association says the budget cuts proposed by School Superintendent Terry Dade fall too heavily on the ranks of teachers...and not heavily enough on the City School District's bureaucracy.

Union President Adam Urbanski has posted a reply to Dade's proposed cuts on the RTA's web site. He says 168 teacher layoffs would be devastating and disruptive to students, but also unworkable because some of those teachers are in subjects mandated by the state. He says contrast those 168 teachers with 18 administrators and he's left wondering if the cuts are truly being kept as far away from the classroom as possible.

Urbanski also says the district will immediately file a Class Action grievance if teacher benefits including their Professional Development Incentive are cut.
