LGBTQ Veterans' Benefits To Be Restored

LGBTQ veterans who were denied an honorable discharge due to their sexual orientation or gender identity could soon have their veterans' benefits restored. Governor Cuomo signed The Restoration of Honor Act yesterday, allowing those veterans to apply to claim their New York State benefits. The legislation also restores benefits for those who received less than honorable discharges due to military sexual trauma, traumatic brain injury or PTSD. New York is the first state in the country to have a law like this on the books.
