Some Claims Dismissed in University of Rochester Lawsuit

A judge has dismissed some of the claims made against the University of Rochester in a lawsuit brought by former faculty and students.

The suit alleges the university mishandled abuse complaints against a professor accused of pressuring students to share drug and sex, and retaliated against them for raising the issue.

The judge ruled several of the claims will be allowed to move forward while others will be dropped.

The university's lawyers had pushed to have the entire case dismissed.

An independent law firm hired by the university investigated and found the professor's behavior "inappropriate, unprofessional and offensive," but not illegal.

The University of Rochester says since the investigation it has strengthened its anti-discrimination policies and worked to build a culture of respect.
