Identity Confirmed Of Teen Who Died In River At Turning Point Park

Rochester Police are identifying the 13-year-old who presumably drowned Sunday in the Genesee River at Turning Point Park.

Javir Hampton was alone in the water before he went under and never resurfaced. No lifeguards are present there. The medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death.

Rochester City School Superintendent Terry Dade confirmed that Hampton was a student, and would have entered the 8th grade this September.

He released a statement saying that his thoughts and prayers are with Hampton's family, friends, and the entire Monroe school community.

Grief counselors will be available at Monroe for the remainder of this week, between 8:00 am and 1:00 pm, with counseling services available again at the start of the school year in September.
