Cuomo to New Yorkers: Prepare for Extreme Heat

It will feel very hot today.

An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect from noon Friday until 6 p.m. Saturday.

The forecast is calling for highs in the 90s and the Heat Index could make it feel like more than 100.

Monroe County Health Commissioner Michael Mendoza tells 13WHAM its very important to drink water when its hot.

  • Monroe County is extending swimming hours at Ontario Beach Park until 8 p.m. tonight and tomorrow night.
  • The City of Rochester has extended hours at Genesee Valley Park Pool
  • Cool Sweep Heat Emergency operations will be in effect tomorrow in the City of Rochester.
  • People also can cool off at the city's R-Centers and libraries.

Governor Cuomo is urging New Yorkers to prepare for extreme heat this weekend. The high temperatures and increased humidity could be dangerous for at-risk populations, particularly the elderly and small children. The heat wave is expected to last until Monday.
