Mayor's Proposal to End 'Dynamic Staffing' with 2% Funds May Be Illegal

The debate over 'dynamic staffing' within the city of Rochester's fire stations continues.

The City initiated nighttime and weekend closures at fire houses this week to save on overtime costs. Some are concerned the closures will mean longer response times to emergencies in their neighborhoods.

This afternoon, the Rochester Firefighters Association and neighborhood groups held a press conference discussing the impacts.

During the press conference, Mayor Lovely Warren presented Santiago with an agreement ending extended dynamic staffing as instituted on July 1.

The Vice President of the two percent committee, Johnathan Griffiths says this proposal is illegal. According to Mayor Warren's agreement, the two percent fund has been used before for the purchase of fire equipment.

The agreement would also reassign four Firefighters, serving as truck drivers for the Rochester Fire Protectives, back to active duty with fire companies.

Union President Eddie Santiago rejected the proposal saying he, and the union, has no control of the two percent fund. Santiago says this is the Mayor holding the Union hostage.
