A Wayne County woman is dead and another person was seriously hurt Friday in an ATV crash in the Adirondacks.
Tammy Shears of Savannah died after her ATV hit a pickup truck in Lewis County while she was riding around a sharp curve on a road. Shears tried to avoid the truck, causing the ATV to roll over. She and passenger Bailey Dougherty of Sodus Point were both thrown off the ATV. The 53-year-old Shears was pronounced dead at the scene; the 28-year-old Dougherty was flown to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse with a severe leg injury.
