Trevyan Rowe's Mother Files Suit Against City, School District

The family of Trevyan Rowe has filed a lawsuit against the City of Rochester, Mayor Lovely Warren and the Rochester City School District over the 14-year-old's death last year.

Rowe's mother, Carrie Houston, filed the suit seeking an undetermined amount of money. In addition to the school district, it also names former School Superintendent Barbara Deane Williams, School Board President Van White, plus Rochester's police and emergency communications departments.

Trevyan Rowe went missing from City School #12 in March of 2018, and his body was found three days later in the Genesee River after a massive search. The autistic youth wandered off from his bus and never entered the school that morning. Staff missed his absence and reported him as "present."

The suit as filed in court says the school district and the city both failed Trevyan Rowe and his family, and failed to keep him safe at school. It says officials at School 12 failed to notify Houston that her son was missing, and first responders bungled their handling of his disappearance.
