Mumps Reported in Livingston County

Another case of the mumps is being reported in Livingston County. The Health Department says there are now three confirmed cases.The health department is working closely with the state and the Livonia Central School District to ensure residents are safe.

Earlier this month, officials at Livonia High School sent a letter to parents saying one of the cases is one of their students.The other case was in an adult. Both patients had been vaccinated, but got the disease anyway.

Health officials say it's possible to get the mumps despite being vaccinated, but you typically get a less severe case.Symptoms of mumps includes puffy checks, swollen jaw, fever, headache, loss of appetite and tiredness.
