Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Music Director Sets Date for Departure

The music director for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra has set a date for his departure.

Ward Stare has notified the board that he will be leaving in two years, in the Summer of 2021.

Stare is a Rochester native and has been the music director for the RPO for five years. He was the youngest person ever to get the job.

The board says in a statement the two-year heads-up will allow time for a "thoughtful search" for a successor.
