Gates Chili Student Charged With Hacking Former Superintendent's Email

A student in the Gates Chili Central School District is being charged as an adult for allegedly hacking into the account of the former superintendent. Ajay Bhattacharyya, 17, was arraigned with two counts of computer trespass, two counts of identity theft and four counts of falsifying business records. Bhattacharyya allegedly hacked into the account of former superintendent Kimberle Ward. Investigators say Bhattacharyya retrieved her password and gained access to grade point documents, discipline records and other personal information. Bhattacharyya is accused of identify theft and unlawfully accessing district information on two separate occasions. Bhattacharyya pleaded not guilty in court Friday. The school district said no student's private information was taken or copied, but it may have been viewed.
