Wegmans Eliminating Plastic Grocery Bags by End of Year

All Wegmans stores in New York will be eliminating the use of plastic grocery bags by the end of this year.

Wegmans packaging and sustainability manager Jason Wadsworth says the company is working to become more eco-friendly, by reducing in-store plastic packaging made from fossil fuels, along with other single-use plastics. The state ban on plastic bags takes effect on March 1st of 2020.

Wegmans has already replaced plastic straws in its stores with ones made from plant-based fiber, and is replacing some plastic packaging with the same material
