NYS: Proposed Bill Would Automatically Enroll New Yorkers as Organ Donors

A state lawmaker is proposing a bill that would automatically enroll New Yorkers as organ donors.

Western New York Assemblyman Pat Burke says anyone 18 or older would be added to the registry unless they choose to opt out. Anyone 16 or 17 years old who wants to become organ donors would have to opt in.

Burke says New York has the third-highest need for organ donors.
