Proposed Bill in NYS Senate For Social Media Screening Before Gun Purchase

A proposed bill in the New York State Senate would require people who want to purchase guns to first undergo a social media and internet history screening.

The proposal would allow investigators to probe a gun applicant's online behavior going back as far as three years.  Investigators will look for any sort of aggressive behavior including threats to the health or safety of others, intentions to carry out an act of terrorism and profane slurs describing race, color, religion, gender or sexual orientation of another person.

The bill is still in draft stages and would need to clear several hurdles before becoming a law.
