If you'll be traveling for the long holiday weekend, you won't be alone. AAA projects more than 54 million people will travel at least 50 miles. That's up 4.8 percent since last year, and the heaviest travel volume since 2005. AAA says that's due to higher wages, rising household wealth and more disposable income.
Nearly 90 percent of travelers will be driving -- and the heavy volume on the roads is expected to mean even more delays around the major metropolitan areas. The top destinations for travelers include Orlando, Florida; New York City, and Anaheim, California. AAA reminds drivers that useful information on routes and gas prices is available on the free AAA mobile app.
