A cat tested at a veterinary hospital in Hilton has turned out to have rabies.
The feral cat tested positive for the virus after being caught and brought in to the Hilton Veterinary Hospital by a well-meaning person in the Hazen Street area. The clinic says on its Facebook page that the good samaritan was bitten a number of times. Because of the cat's odd behavior and the person's injuries, they euthanized the cat and sent it to county authorities for testing.
They say there's a group of wild cats in that general area of Hilton, and they're warning people to avoid them.
