Former New York Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos Sentenced

Former New York Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos is heading to prison for more than four years for using his influence to get his son a high paying job.

A U.S. District judge sentenced the 70-year-old to four years and three months in prison for bribery, fraud and extortion, saying she would have given him less time, but thought his testimony at retrial contained falsehoods.

In 2015, both Skelos and his son Adam were found guilty of corruption and sentenced to prison, but that was overturned due to a change in the law.

A jury convicted the once powerful New York Republican after three days of deliberations in his retrial this summer.
