NYS DEC Hoping to Increase Lake Sturgeon Population in State Waterways

The state's Department of Environmental Conservation is hoping to rebuild the Lake Sturgeon population in the state's waterways.

Authorities were at the City of Rochester boat ramp today to stock the Genesee River. The Lake Sturgeon is a threatened species, and some of the fish have been tagged for tracking and research.

The stocking program in state waterways began 25 years ago. The fish are from the state's Oneida hatchery and could eventually grow to be 7 feet long.
