Driver Charged In Connection with Deadly June Crash in Greece

The former Hilton high school student accused of causing a June crash in Greece that killed her classmate just weeks before graduation, is pleading not guilty to the charges.

Greece Police say 18-year-old Brianna Scarpulla turned herself in this afternoon and was subsequently arrested on a second degree manslaughter charge and assault charge in connection with a crash on June 10th that killed Paige Smith.

Greece Police Chief Patrick Phelan believes Scarpulla was going around 70MPH in a 40MPH zone when the car went off onto the shoulder of Latta Road. He says it appears that the vehicle was then over-corrected and crossed the center line, slamming into an oncoming SUV.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV had serious injuries.

Smith and Scarpulla were both seniors at Hilton High School.
