RPD: Internal Investigation Launched Following Police Brutality Allegations

The Rochester Police Department says two officers used force in May on the wrong man in a case of mistaken identity.

The officers have been found in violation of departmental policies, have been suspended without pay, and face termination.

Christopher Pate says he suffered injuries to his jaw and broken bones in his face during the encounter this spring -- and he  was arrested on resisting arrest charges that were later dropped.

Police Chief Michael Ciminelli says the arrest never should have been made.

The information about the officers has been turned over to the District Attorney's office for possible criminal charges.
