Off-Duty Sheriff's Deputy Discharges Weapon During Domestic Incident

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is investigating a domestic incident after an off-duty sheriff’s deputy fired his weapon. According to Sheriff Todd Baxter, deputies were called for a domestic incident at a house on Redman Road around 6:45 p.m. Baxter said a man forced his way into the home. His estranged wife, who was at the location at the time, was injured. An off-duty jail deputy who was at the home became involved in a struggle with the man. The deputy  discharged one round from his personal gun in his hand. The sheriff said the man was not hit, but did sustain an injury of some kind. The man drove himself to Strong Memorial Hospital. His estranged wife had an order of protection. Internal Affairs will investigate the incident.
