Truck Driver Sentenced For Crash That Killed Rochester Mother

The truck driver who triggered a crash that killed a Rochester mother last June on the NYS Thruway, is going to prison.

Kristofer Gregorek was sentenced today to 1.5 to 4.5 years behind bars. He pleaded guilty back in February to second degree manslaughter in connection with the death of Ellen Volpe.

Volpe was driving to work from Rochester to Buffalo on the Thruway when Gregorek rear-ended her car with a box truck. Prosecutors said Gregorek was speeding and on his phone when he hit Volpe's car.

Volpe was an assistant professor of nursing at the University of Buffalo.
