A review of the most recent numbers shows teen birth rates in the area have fallen to historic lows.
The Monroe County Department of Public Health says the number of babies born to teen mothers in Rochester fell 61 percent between 2008 and 2016. The birth rate in 2016 was 31 per 1,000 teen girls.
The City has taken the lead in directing two teen pregnancy prevention programs that engage 3,000 teens per year in discussions about abstinence, birth control, communication skills and consent.
The teen birth rate dropped in the suburbs, too -- by more than half over 8 years.
