Fire Crews Respond to Massive Fire in Chili

Fire broke out this afternoon at the Metalico Scrapyard on Scottsville Road, sending a plume of smoke a hundred feet or more into the air.

Multiple fire departments responded, according to Gates Fire District Chief Fire Prevention Officer, Joe Manuse. He says a large pile of scrap metal was burning.

Manuse says firefighters train for this sort of fire, including with the staff at Metalico.

The fire sent thick black smoke, into neighborhoods in Chili, southwest of the fire scene.

Some pressurized tanks exploded during the fire, but nobody was hurt.
