Monroe County Exec Issues Wind Storm Emergency Declaration

Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo  declared a state of emergency Wednesday afternoon after the wind storm tipped over three tractor-trailer rigs in the county. Dinolfo said she wanted high-profile vehicles like tractor-trailer rigs off the road until evening when the winds died down.

Two more big rigs blew over on Route 77 west of Batavia. One of the wrecks at the 390-590 split in Brighton caused major afternoon rush hour traffic problems.

Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter says it was a chaotic day. Baxter says they had more than 160 calls for service between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. when things seemed to be at their worst. Many of those were for downed power lines.
