The Brockport Police Department says its phone number is being used in a telephone scam.
The department is getting reports that people identifying themselves as law enforcement officials are harassing people on the phone -- telling them they owe money for outstanding bills, tickets, or loans.
Police say the scammers ask for money to be transferred via MoneyGram, Western Union, or other services. And the police department says law enforcement agencies do not try to collect fines or outstanding debts from citizens.
