NY Attorney General Says Millions Are Impacted by Data Breaches

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman wants tougher state laws to curb data breaches and the damage they case. He wants action during the current state legislative session. He says the New York law is outdated. 

Schneiderman says data breaches last year exposed the personal records of more than 9 million New Yorkers, And he says the number of data breach reports was up 23 percent over the year before.

The Attorney General says 25-percent of the state's data breaches were due to negligence, while 44 percent is due to hacking.
